Plantar Fascitis

Heel or foot pain, especially with the first steps in the morning or after long periods of standing

What it is

Plantar fasciitis typically shows up as sharp pain in the bottom of the foot or heel, especially with the first few steps in the morning or after long periods of standing.

A lot of people think of it as just inflammation, but it’s usually more of a load and capacity issue than anything else.

In some cases, this involves irritation of the plantar fascia itself, but more often, the underlying issue is how stress is being placed on the foot and how well it’s able to handle it.

Why you’re experiencing it

This usually builds over time rather than happening overnight.

Common contributing factors include:

  • Sudden increase in walking, running, or standing
  • Limited ankle mobility
  • Weakness in the foot or lower leg
  • Poor load distribution through the foot
  • Footwear that doesn’t match your activity demands

When the foot is asked to do more than it’s prepared for, the tissue becomes irritated.

How it shows up

You might notice:

  • Sharp heel pain with the first steps in the morning
  • Pain after long periods of standing or walking
  • Tightness in the foot or calf
  • Pain that improves as you move but returns later
  • Ongoing discomfort that doesn’t fully go away

How we help

At CSPC, we focus on building your foot’s ability to handle load—not just temporarily relieving symptoms.

Your plan is built around:

  • Reducing irritation and calming symptoms
  • Improving ankle mobility
  • Strengthening the foot and lower leg
  • Gradually reloading the tissue
  • Increasing your tolerance to daily activity and training

The goal is to build your foot’s capacity so it can handle daily activity and training without constantly flaring up.
